Bandipora
The village of
Bandipora
is surrounded by mountains on three sides and by Wular lake
on the fourth side. This village is located at a distance of 2 hours and 20 minutes from the capital Srinagar. This place is spread over an area of 398 km2.
Wular lake is the main attraction of
Bandipora. It is the second-largest freshwater lake in Asia. The pollution dumping from the river Jhelum gets deposited here in this lake. Lolab valley in Kupwara is another beautiful place adjacent to
Bandipora. At a distance of 30 km, this alluring valley is located. This valley is accessible through Aloosa village.
This place is also known as the gateway to Central Asia, as the road of Pazalpora leads to the Silk Route from where you can reach Central Asia. Nowadays the route is closed and it has a check post of the forest department.
For adventure junkies, this place is always on the list for mountaineering, fishing, hiking, and camping. Mount Harmukh is located on the eastern side of the town. Sheera Sar is the base camp for trekkers and mountaineers who climb mount Harmukh and walk through the woods of Bandipora.
Gurez is another alluring valley that is situated on the north side of the village. The route that leads to this valley remains closed during winters due to the heavy snowfall. This village has most of the freshwater lakes and contains various varieties of trout fishes.
The climate remains sunny and moderate during summer and in winters this place receives huge snowfall. This valley has the most scenic beauties and beautiful mountains around but still, a majority of tourists do not visit here.

From the Srinagar international airport, it will take you almost 2 hours and 30 minutes by cab.
If traveling from Jammu, it will take you 9 hours and 45 minutes to reach, which is a distance of 331 km.
