largest Mughal Garden in Kashmir
The largest Mughal Garden in Kashmir,
Shalimar Bagh
was made by the emperor Jehangir for his beautiful wife Nur Jahan. This garden is considered as the highest Mughal horticulture and, “the Crown of Kashmir”. This garden has another garden in its vicinity, named, Nishat Bagh which was also made for beautiful Nur Jahan by his brother Asif Khan.
Different emperors named it with different names. The emperor Jehangir named it “
Farah Bakhsh
” which means delightful. And after many years the Governor Zafar khan extended the garden and named it “
Faiz Bakhsh
” which means bountiful. But the most popular name,

The garden is built on a flat square area with four ways for water channels. The main central water channel is known as the Shah Nahar, which runs through three terraces. The garden has 3 terraces in total with the
Chinar trees
lined vistas and fountains fitted in the middle of the pools.
The first terrace is for the public. Over the water-fall, a black-marble throne has been placed. The second terrace has a broad and wide area. The fountains are found all over the terrace. Almost 410 fountains are found there. The last terrace is flanked by the giant Chinar trees. At the entrance of this terrace, streams are flowing through this garden. It is surrounded by a fountain pool that receives the water from the higher terraces.
The weather remains moderate throughout the summer and is the best time to visit here. The garden offers picture-perfect views. The cab booked under the package by Duke Kashmir Travels provides a comfortable ride to the garden.
