Pathar Masjid
Pathar Masjid
is built near the banks of the river Jhelum. It is located in the
old city of Srinagar
.
Pathar Masjid was made under the supervision of Nur Jahan, the wife of the emperor Jehangir.
Pathar Masjid is quite different from other mosques of the city, as this one doesn’t have a domed or pyramidal roof and does not have any spires at the top. It has a total of 9 mehraabs or arches, where the middle one is the biggest and the rest of the 8 arches are small as compared to the middle one.
Pathar Masjid has got its name from its structure, which is made of stones. Hence based on stone structure the mosque was named Pathar Masjid. Nowadays the mosque is locally known as
Naev Masheed
